Sonia Astle, RN MS CCRN CNRN CCNS, a critical care clinical nurse specialist at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA, United States, visited Kalra Hospital today to tour its facility, and present a lecture to the nursing staff titled “Universal Issues in Nursing Care.” The discussion centered on strategies to prevent hospital acquired infections and pressure ulcers, to achieve pain control and to promote patient education.
She has over three decades of clinical experience — including service with the United States Air Force, from which she retired after 30 years of service — and has been associated with Inova Fairfax Hospital since 1996. Astle earned her Master of Science in 1987 and her Bachelor of Science in 1985 from the University of New Hampshire in Durham after obtaining her nursing diploma in 1972 from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Hancock, Michigan, United States. She is currently serving a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Certification Corporation Board.
Astle's visit is part of Kalra Hospital's ongoing effort toward streamlining critical care services in the region and in New Delhi, and bringing them at par with international standards. She plans to continue to work with Kalra’s nursing staff to contribute to their ongoing education. The visit was facilitated through Kalra Hospital's collaboration with the Critical Care Working Group (CCWG) that has been closely working with Kalra to bring international experts in critical care medicine to home soil for establishing a world-class critical care facility in New Delhi.
